Archbishop Martin Krebs presents credentials to President Waqa
His Excellency President
Baron Waqa received Archbishop Martin Krebs Apostolic
Nuncio-designate of the Holy See to the Republic of Nauru this
morning (23 February) at the Presidential
Office.
Upon arriving at the
government office the Archbishop presented copies of his letter of
credence to Secretary for Foreign Affairs & Trade Mr Michael
Aroi before being received by the Director of Police for the
playing of the national anthems and inspection of the police Guard
of Honour.
He was later escorted to the
President's Office for the presentation of
credentials.
The Archbishop expressed a
message of unity and peace for Nauru and the importance of the two
country's shared Christian beliefs.
His Excellency accepted the
letter of credence and conveyed congratulations to the Archbishop
for being accredited to Nauru and echoed the importance of
Christian beliefs highlighting the country's motto of God's Will
First.
"We are indeed very honoured
and I am personally very humbled to receive Your Eminence and
accept your letter of credence and letter of recall of your
predecessor," President Waqa said.
A private meeting followed
the formal introductions.
The Archbishop made some
courtesy calls following his meeting with the president and will
continue courtesy calls over the next two days including visits to
the Catholic school Kayser College and a tour of the phosphate
mining operations.
