A total of 215 children aged 5-11
received their vaccinations on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28
July.
Of this number, 40 children
received their first dose (88 per cent) and 175 children received
their second dose (34 per cent) and are therefore fully
vaccinated.
Children who have taken their first
dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago are now eligible to take
the second dose.
Parents and guardians are advised
that if your child has COVID, it is better to wait three months
from the time of infection to get their first dose. This will help
the body increase immunity.
Waiting three months is beneficial
in terms of building stronger immunity. However, there is no harm
if you want your child to take the shot after recovering from COVID
as long as they have no acute illness.
Do not hesitate to ask questions,
help or advice from Health professionals at the vaccination
stations.
Vaccination stations will be closed
over the weekend and will resume on Monday 1 August at the Aiue
Boulevard and Anetan hall, 10am-5pm.
The Nauru COVID-19 Taskforce and
Public Health have secured additional vaccine doses. President
Lionel Aingimea thanks the government and people of India for their
continued assistance to Nauru during these COVID times, notably for
their most recent donation of 7,000 doses of the AstraZeneca
vaccine. These are scheduled to arrive in August and will be
administered to the adult population who missed their first and
second doses.
Likewise, the President thanks the
government and people of Switzerland for the donation of 12,870
doses of the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12 to 18 due for
their third dose and for 18 years and older for their fourth dose.
These are also scheduled to arrive in August.
The public is reminded that we are
still at Step 2 of the COVID-19 step down measures and the public
is requested to adhere to these measures - continue to wear a mask,
physical distance, wash your hands and sanitise.
If you have symptoms, stay home
