officiates swearing-in ceremony by members of the new
parliament
The members of the 21st Parliament of Nauru met this
morning (11 June) in parliament chambers for the swearing-in
ceremony.
Supreme Court Judge John von Doussa QC, officiated the ceremony
and signing of oaths by all 19 Members of Parliament.
Shortly after the ceremony, Clerk of Parliament, Ann-Marie Thoma
thanked Judge von Doussa on behalf of the new parliament and
proceeded to the election of a speaker.
However, a member suggested the House take a short recess before
proceeding. A one hour recess was granted.
When the House resumes the first order of business would be the
election of a Member of Parliament to be speaker of parliament.
Second would be the election of a Member of Parliament to be
deputy speaker of parliament and thirdly, the election of two
Members of Parliament to be deputy chairman of committees.
Thereafter will be the election of a Member of Parliament to be
the president of Nauru.
