More asylum seeker family groups have arrived in Nauru within
the past week on board a chartered flight of Nauru's national
carrier,Our Airline, from Christmas Island.
A family group arrived yesterday (11 September) and were of
Iranian and Burmese nationality. There were 16 females and 15
males; the youngest was a six year old.
Like previous arrivals they completed brief immigration
formalities before boarding mini-buses to take them to the third
Regional Processing Centre site at Topside, where the other
families are residing.
The groups received an induction to the facility by service
providers and are providing support to settle them into their new
environment.
The transfer from aircraft to Topside was without incident.
The recent transfers bring the total number of asylum seekers on
island to 649.
