NZ high commissioner-designate Shane Jones presents credentials to President Baron Waqa
His Excellency
President Baron Waqa received the High Commissioner-designate of
New Zealand to Nauru Mr Shane Jones at the Presidential Office this
morning (Monday 20 October) for the presentation of
credentials.
Upon arriving
at the government office Mr Jones presented copies of his letter of
credence to Secretary for Foreign Affairs & Trade Mr Michael
Aroi before being received by the Director of Police Corey Caleb
for the playing of the national anthems and inspection of the
police Guard of Honour.
Mr Jones was
later escorted to the President's Office for the presentation of
credentials.
Following a
brief introductory exchange between the high commissioner and
President Waqa, His Excellency accepted the letter of credence and
a private meeting ensued.
Over the next
two days, Mr Jones will continue courtesy calls on cabinet
ministers, speaker of parliament, chief secretary, heads of
departments, the Australian high commissioner and members of the
opposition.
President Waqa
will host a dinner reception for the high commissioner tomorrow
(Tuesday 21 October).
High
Commissioner Jones arrived this morning (Monday 20 October) and
will depart on Wednesday 22 October. Mr Jones replaces Mark
Ramsden.
