President congratulates India
on achieving 1 billion vaccine doses
His Excellency President
Lionel Aingimea congratulates India on having administered one
billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine, on Thursday, 21 October
2021.
"The Government of India has been
there for Nauru since the start of the pandemic with a donation of
10,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in April 2020, as well as
supply of PPE and USD$1 million to Nauru through the UNDP/WHO which
is funding a lot of equipment and technical assistance."
India's vaccine donation ensured
100 per cent coverage of the adult population of Nauru.
"India has always been generous and
willing to share their vaccines with the rest of the world and
Nauru is privileged to have received this kind assistance."
This milestone achievement means a
portion of India's almost 1.4 billion population has either had one
or two doses of the vaccine.
On behalf of the government and
people of Nauru, President Aingimea wishes the best for India in
her journey to full vaccination coverage and congratulates His
Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this milestone
achievement.
