President receives Indian High
Commissioner-designate Vohra
His Excellency President Lionel
Aingimea virtually received the credentials of India's high
commissioner to Nauru, Manpreet Vohra, 20 September.
President Aingimea congratulated
the High Commissioner and expressed his confidence in the ability
to promote continued cooperation, and strengthen relations between
India and Nauru.
High Commissioner Vohra who joined
the Indian Foreign Service in August 1988, said that the two
countries have always had similar views about the world, viewing it
as one family.
"Excellency, I bring you my
government's greetings, wishes and assurances that in Nauru's march
towards development, peace and prosperity, you will always have a
strong and reliable partner in India."
President Aingimea extended his
compliments on the appointment.
"I would like to extend to you,
your Excellency, my congratulations on your appointment as High
Commissioner to Nauru and express my full confidence in your
abilities to further promote and enhance the positive ties that
happily exist between our two countries," President Aingimea
said.
The Government of the Republic of
India has assisted Nauru with various programs in the past,
including through training Nauruans in information, communications
and technology and its support and donation of COVID-19 vaccines
and medical personal protective equipment earlier this year.
The Government of India donated
10,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Nauru in April this year
boosting Nauru's vaccination program and ensuring full coverage of
the target adult population of Nauru.
Additionally, the Government of
India provided USD$1 million to Nauru through the United Nations
Development Program / World Health Organisation (UNDP/WHO) which is
funding a lot of equipment as well as technical assistance.
