Ambassador to Cyprus presents
credentials
His Excellency President David
Adeang received the letter of credence for the High
Commisssioner-designate of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic
of Nauru, Antonis Sammoutis, 29 April.
High Commissioner Sammoutis was
received by Acting Secretary for Foreign Affairs Christiana
Detenamo before proceeding to inspect the Nauru Police Force Guard
of Honour and the playing of the national anthems of Cyprus and
Nauru.
In presenting his credentials Mr
Sammoutis said Nauru is assured of another stable supporter in
Cyprus within the European Union, additionally noting that when
small island states are like-minded they could and should support
each other and together they can respond to demographic and climate
change better and can eliminate poverty, improve education and
stimulate economic growth and development.
President Adeang welcomed the
opportunity to enhance the cooperation and deepen ties that unite
Nauru and Cyprus.
"Together, we are poised to tackle
the pressing issues of our era, particularly climate change. Your
role as ambassador to Nauru offers a valuable bridge between our
countries and we are committed to a partnership that yields long
term benefits and strengthens our shared resolve in facing global
challenges."
Mr Sammoutis joined the diplomatic
service of the Cyprus in 2003 and has held various positions in the
consular, protocol, Middle East Department and the Department of
Bilateral Relations with European countries.
