PIF holds Nauru consultations
on regional initiatives
The Department of Foreign Affairs
& Trade hosted a visiting team of officials from the Pacific
Islands Forum Secretariat (PIF) for in-country consultations with
government officials, the private sector and other key
stakeholders, on regional initiatives led by the PIF, 19 April.
The visit is part of the PIF's
renewed efforts to engage and consult with member countries on key
initiatives and priorities stemming from the 2050 Strategy for the
Blue Pacific Continent and its implementation plan aligning with
Nauru's national development goals.
The three key objectives - to
engage with participants and various officials; advocate on key
initiatives that leaders have set such as issues and policies
already in place; and visibility, an important aspect of the Forum
as it continues to connect with the people and showcase the PIF and
the importance of its role in supporting its member countries.
The PIF team led by Deputy
Secretary General Esala Nayasi says the engagement was good and
being in-country is critical as it gives the team better
understanding of the members and the country's context.
Going forward the team will work on
the outcomes of the meetings and Nauru's position in relation to
the key policies which are being developed.
Regional policy making, and
programs and coordination are the two main areas the team will be
working on with DFAT through the Nauru High Commission in Suva to
see how best to collaborate in addressing those issues.
