President acknowledges successful China state visit in parliament
His Excellency President David
Adeang reported to Parliament in April of his successful state
visit to the Republic of China (PRC) in March at the invitation of
President Xi Jinping. The historic event is the first visit to the
PRC since the Adeang government took office in October 2023.
President Adeang was accompanied by Ministers Jesse Jeremiah and
Reagan Aliklik, and Deputy Ministers Isabella Dageago and Maverick
Eoe, and senior public servants. The visit marked a significant
step in the two countries' on-going efforts to strengthen the
relationship and discuss key areas of mutual interest and
concern.
President Adeang engaged in highly
productive discussions with President Xi, Premier Li Qiang, and the
Chairman of the Congress Zhao Leji on issues including finance and
economics, education, health, media, climate change and renewable
energy, all of which are crucial to Nauru's sustainable growth. "We
were able to build on the existing foundations of our relationship,
and together we explored new opportunities for cooperation that can
bring mutual benefits and contribute to global stability and
prosperity," President Adeang said. The ministers and deputy
ministers also signed various memorandums of understanding to
strengthen the collaboration. The delegation also had the
opportunity to meet with the president of the Asia Infrastructure
Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun. The delegation expressed Nauru's
interest in becoming a member. The AIIB accepted Nauru's interest
and is further committed to strengthening the partnership which is
anticipated to be fulfilled with Nauru's admission as a member by
September. President Adeang says the state visit has helped fortify
ties laying the groundwork for continued dialogue and cooperation.
"We must build on the momentum generated by this visit, working
collaboratively to address the challenges and seize the
opportunities that lie ahead." President Adeang said the
delegation's reception in China reflected the depth of respect and
friendship, and expressed his "thanks and gratitude to His
Excellency President Xi Jinping, and the government and people of
China for their warm reception and exceptional hospitality"
accorded to the delegation. ENDS///
