Nursing students graduate, fill staff shortage
The Ministry of Health conducted a
graduation ceremony for the fourth cohort of the in-house nurse
aide training course, 11 May.
Minister for Health and Medical
Services Charmaine Scotty congratulated the nine students as she
conferred their Certificate I in Nurse Aide; and presented the
outstanding performance award for the highest achieving student to
Christie Aubiat.
Director for the health
department's training and development division Lynette Mazola says
the program, facilitated by the training division team, includes
two weeks of theoretical studies and a week of practical clinical
attachment in the hospital wards.
"This course is an in-house
training for health staff, which consists of 10 units in total. It
will prepare the roles and responsibilities of nursing aide or
nursing assistants in the clinical settings both in the hospital
and other health care facilities.
The first program was conducted in
2016 and has continued since then with its training steered by the
demands of health staffing needs.
In turn the flexible schedule
allows the students to time manage in attending the training
sessions and continue working to cover the staff shortage in the
healthcare services.
"Nursing is both art and science,
and when integrated into practice, the quality of care to provide
to your patients should be at a level of excellence that benefits
both patients and their families," Mrs Mazola said.
Congratulations to the following
Nurse Aides: Christie Aubiat, Datanya Duburiya, Larma Thoma,
Livelma Amram,
Loretta
Batiku, Kihana Degia, Rhonella Scotty, Zanita Tom and Zhu-Young
Mobit.
