Operation Render Safe - Removing the danger
The Australian Defence Force (ADF)
is in Nauru to conduct a preliminary assessment of unexploded
ordnances discovered during a survey in Nauru in 2023 under
Operation Render Safe. Invited by the Government of Nauru, the ADF
are here to prepare and plan for the disposal of unexploded
ordnances.
This latest deployment follows the
ADF's support to the Republic of Nauru in December last year, when
Australian Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians disarmed a
World War II era 500lb Mark-12 bomb.
Operation Render Safe is the
ADF-led enduring commitment to safely dispose of World War II
explosive remnants of war from South Pacific Island nations. The
Operation occurs annually, or in response to an urgent request from
a Pacific Island nation.
